Competent Communication

The administrative director where I work, Beth, has a way of communicating with staff and families that leaves me in awe.  It just amazes me how she can talk to someone who is extremely upset or angry and by the end of the conversation, everyone is calm and content.  Her demeanor leaves one to believe that she is never angry, sad, or upset.  She wears a smile and is friendly and compassionate, yet firm when she needs to be.  As the site director, I feel privileged to have her as my boss.  I am always learning from her. 

The youtube video, Change your words, Change your world reminded me of her.  She always knows the right words to say to make everything right in the world. 


 
 
I feel that it is Beth's friendliness and smile that make her easy to talk to you.  She is understanding and reasonable which makes her a terrific boss.  The quality I most want to replicate is her ability to handle the unexpected with great ease.   She is a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day!

  1. Hi Lynn. Everyone in this world needs people like Beth and I can tell she is an inspiration to many, even those outside of her family. As for the video, that was a beautiful example of helping people whether homeless, no job, no families or desperate. Even a small donation (food, clothing) can bring a smile even to you. You have a perfect boss - - I’m sure many wish they had people like her in their life and work environment. Jay

    Life is all about meeting so many people who bring a smile on the days we need them the most. This video said so much in so many ways. I was taken aback because I did not see that ending coming.!

  4. I also have a coworker that is this way. I wish that I could learn to communicate as successfully as she does. I wish that my principal was a little easier to talk to sometimes because I think he get's tired of us going to our Assistant Principal, but he does realize it's his communication skills that turn us off.

  5. Lynn, I'm so happy you shared that video! I saw it the other night and thought it shared a wonderful message about communication. I too thought of it as relevant to this course. Also, thank you for sharing your thoughts on the administrative director in your workplace and how her communication is effective in that context. -Katelyn
